You are very generous people. I have witnessed that over and over, and I am very grateful for your financial gifts to the parish and others who have appealed to you for help, like Fr. Ryan who asked for assistance for his mission in Togo, West Africa when he visited us last August. Now, the Archdiocese of Washington is making its Annual Appeal to you for help. There are good reasons why I make a contribution, and I am asking you to join me in answering this appeal.
The Appeal funds a wide variety of ministries and charities that go beyond what we can do individually, or even as a parish. The Appeal helps the poor through Catholic Charities, makes campus ministries possible, and supports chaplaincies for hospitals. It also makes possible marriage preparation, enhances Catholic Education, and provides needed resources to crisis pregnancy centers. And these are just a handful of the many programs, works, and outreach efforts that are funded by the Appeal.
A significant part of the Appeal goes to the Archdiocesan vocation program. We are blessed at our parish to have two young men in formation from St. Jane de Chantal, one of whom will be ordained in June and will celebrate his first mass at our parish church. Your gifts have helped bring him to this day.
100% of your gift will be used for these purposes and ministries that are covered by the Appeal. None of which will be used for operating expenses.
Your gift is a sign of your gratitude for the blessings you have received, and of your desire to share those blessings with your neighbors and others who are part of the Church here in Washington. By giving to the Appeal, your gift is much more effective as it is joined with those from thousands of others from the parishes of Washington and becomes a sign to the world of the quality of our faith in God.
You will hear more about the Annual Appeal in the next couple of weeks, and I hope and pray you will make a heartfelt gift.
